  • How can therapy help me?

There are a number of potential benefits from participating in therapy. We can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues and creative blocks. We can help you manage personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. By providing a fresh perspective on a difficult problem, we can collaborate on the best direction for a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice the techniques we explore. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.

  • What can I expect in a therapy session?

During sessions, you are expected to talk about the primary concerns and issues in your life. A session lasts 50 minutes, but some people request longer sessions. Usually weekly sessions are best. Some people who are in crisis or extreme distress need more than one session per week, at least until the crisis passes. During the time between sessions it is beneficial to think about and process what was discussed. At times, you may be asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records. For therapy to “work,” you must be an active participant, both in and outside of the therapy sessions.

  • What if I don't know what my goals for therapy are?

If you aren’t sure what your goals are for therapy, then that’s a good thing to talk through in your first session. It may take several sessions before a direction is clarified. During the course of therapy your goals may change. However, establishing a direction for therapy will help you get the most out of the experience and we will work with you to build a treatment plan.

  • Does what we talk about remain confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed anywhere but the therapist's office. Every therapist should provide a written copy of their confidential disclosure agreement, and you can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone. This is called "Informed Consent". Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (you, your Physician, Psychiatrist, Naturopath, Attorney), but by law your therapist cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission.

However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

-Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

-If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.

  • What are your fees?

We charge $175 for individual sessions and $195 for couples sessions. See Fees and Insurance tab.

  • What insurance do you take? How does that work?

We take BCBS. For other insurers, we are out of network (OON) and you might be able to get reimbursement for your sessions depending on your plan. We are happy to help you make best use of your insurance benefits. We can verify your OON for you and give you a Superbill.

  • Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes, we require 24 hours notice to avoid a $125 cancellation fee.

Please note; cancellation fees cannot be submitted to insurance.

  • Do you provide counseling via telehealth?

Yes, we provide counseling via video sessions as an alternative to in-person sessions. Video sessions are a great alternative to face-to-face counseling and are especially helpful for those who can't always come into the office or have limited capabilities. We use a secure HIPAA compliant platform to provide confidential teletherapy sessions. Clients log into the portal via their computer or can use their phone.
